About The Author

Salima Witt, a first-time author, embodies resilience and compassion in every facet of her life. Married for 25 years to NHL veteran Brendan Witt, she is a devoted mother of two and a passionate advocate for children and animals in need.

As a USDA and FFW-licensed wildlife rehabilitator  Salima dedicates her life to the care and protection of animals. Her commitment is further exemplified by her previous volunteer work at the Los Angeles Zoo, where she specialized in gorilla care, and at the Aquarium of the Pacific, focusing on shark keeping.

Salima’s philanthropic efforts extend to human welfare as well. She founded Witter’s Hitters, a decade-long charity dedicated to providing critically ill children and their families with unforgettable experiences at NHL games, in partnership with Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. Her volunteerism also includes significant contributions at Pacifica House hospice and UCSD Hospital.

A kidney cancer survivor, Salima’s advocacy for others battling the disease is particularly inspiring. As a member of the Patient and Caregiver Advisory Council for the Kidney Cancer Association, she has become a prominent voice in the community. Her remarkable journey has been highlighted in major publications, including the Washington Post, People Magazine, and Everyday Health, and she has gained national attention through a public service announcement featured in Times Square.

Salima's triumph over adversity is nothing short of miraculous. Today, she thrives without any recurrence of cancer or severe health deficits, attributing her resilience to her inner station and guidance. Her story is a powerful testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome and inspire.
